Trick or Treat!

October 31, 2013

Halloween is such a fun time of year… kids dressing up as action heroes, sports stars, celebrities, jungle animals, the list goes on… it’s a day where people get “to be” someone/something they’re not. Have you ever seen someone dressed up in such a convincing outfit that you can’t even recognize who he/she REALLY is?!

Satan treats every day like Halloween, because he is constantly trying to disguise himself and “trick” us. “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14). How scary is that?!! He is usually REALLY good at disguising his true identity, so we have to be alert! Satan’s goal is to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10) our relationship with Jesus, so we must STAND GUARD and PRAY that our minds will not be LED ASTRAY from our sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2)! We need to keep an eye out for the enemy’s deceitfulness; he is constantly scheming and plotting ways to distract us, tempt us, and make us stumble. Satan loves to “Trick-or-Treat” with us, making the sinful ways of this world  seem attractive, good, and fulfilling.

BUT, just because Satan is always on the prowl, does NOT mean we should be afraid. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7). Through Christ in us, we have COMPLETE AUTHORITY over Satan’s evil ways, and we are supposed to fight against Satan with the DIVINE POWER we have been given through the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

On this Halloween & every day to come, let’s put on the FULL ARMOR OF GOD so that we can take our stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:11). “Stand firm then, with the belt of TRUTH buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS in place, and with your feet fitted with READINESS that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of FAITH, with which you can extinguish ALL the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of SALVATION and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on ALL occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, BE ALERT and always keep on praying for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6: 14-18, emphasis added).

Happy Halloween!

Cheers & Prayers, Brittany
